Romans in Sussex - About this Site

The Romans in Sussex website project started in early 2000, when the Sussex Archaeological society made a successful bid for a grant from Resource: the council for Museums, Archives and Libraries. Their IT challenge fund is an annual award designed to promote excellence in research and education through the use of information and communication technology.

The project is a joint venture involving Fishbourne Roman Palace, Chichester District Museum, Worthing Museum and Art Gallery and Barbican House, Lewes, with additional support from West Sussex County Council. Extra financial support has been very kindly provided by Grant Thorntons.

The key people involved in the project were:

Dr Alex Smith: Researcher E-mail: alextsmith@hotmail.com
Gareth Roelofse: Designer / Programmer E-mail: gareth@roelofse.co.uk
Claire Ryley: Project co-ordinator E-mail: edufish@sussexpast.co.uk

There have been many other individuals and organisations that have lent their support, including the district and county archaeologists, IT professionals, education staff, and the many museums across Sussex and further abroad.

In particular we would like to thank and acknowledge:
Jon Manley: Chief executive of the Sussex Archaeological Society
David Rudkin: Director of Fishbourne Roman Palace
Sally White: Curator of Worthing Museum and Art Gallery
Su Fullwood: Curator of Chichester District Museum
Emma Young: Curator of Barbican House museum, Lewes
Jeff Lord: West Sussex Humanities advisor
